Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP), a joint venture between Malaysia’s MMC Group and Netherlands-based APM Terminals, has achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first container terminal in Malaysia to handle over 12,253,309 TEUs in a single year, reaching this record-breaking volume in 2024.
PTP Chairman, Tan Sri Che Khalib Mohamad Noh, expressed immense pride in this accomplishment, and stated, “2024 has been nothing short of extraordinary. It is gratifying to witness how PTP has risen to the occasion, embracing challenges with courage and transforming them into opportunities for growth and innovation.”
This accomplishment surpasses PTP’s previous record of 11.2 million TEUs set in 2021, reaffirming its status as Malaysia’s leading and largest transshipment hub. The historic 12 millionth TEU was logged at approximately 7:00 PM on 23 December 2024, marking a significant chapter in PTP’s history.

The year 2024 has been a landmark period for PTP, characterized by record-breaking achievements. On 22 September 2024, PTP completed an impressive 14,036 quayside moves in a single 12-hour shift.
Additionally, in July 2024, PTP reached its highest monthly throughput, handling 1,115,181 TEUs. Consistently maintaining high performance, PTP managed over one million TEUs per month for seven consecutive months starting in May 2024.
In December 2024, PTP successfully deployed Kaleris’ Navis N4 4.0 container terminal operating system, a significant upgrade to support future growth while ensuring operational efficiency.
PTP’s accomplishments have solidified its global standing. It is now ranked as the fifth most efficient container port worldwide, according to the 2023 Container Port Performance Index (CPPI) by The World Bank and S&P Global Market Intelligence. Furthermore, PTP holds the 15th position among the world’s top container ports by volume throughput, as reported by Lloyd’s List.
