Vietnam, Sri Lanka deepen textile and logistics ties to boost $1 billion trade target
The development was highlighted at the Vietnam–Sri Lanka Trade, Investment and Tourism Cooperation Forum held in Colombo. The forum was jointly organized by the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) and the Sri Lanka Export Development Board (EDB).
To Lam, President, Vietnam said both countries should focus on sectors with strong complementary strengths. These include textiles and garments, agriculture, food processing, logistics, and services.
Sri Lanka also reaffirmed its commitment to expanding economic ties with Vietnam. Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, said Sri Lanka is targeting a bilateral trade volume of $1 billion by 2030. The country aims to become more export-driven and investment-friendly.
The new air connectivity is expected to support trade, tourism, and business travel. It will also reduce cargo transit time. This is especially important for textile and garment shipments that depend on speed, cost efficiency, and reliable supply chains.
Industry stakeholders from both countries said improved logistics will strengthen trade flows. They also noted that better connectivity will support manufacturing and shipping efficiency.
Analysts view the Vietnam–Sri Lanka cooperation as part of a wider effort to strengthen South–South trade. Both countries are working to diversify export markets and build more resilient supply chains.
