Sri Lanka rubber sector targets USD 2 Bn by 2030

Sri Lanka’s rubber sector achieved USD 1 billion in revenue in 2024 and the industry is planning to increase exports to USD 2 billion by 2030 said newly elected Chairman of Sri Lanka Association of Manufacturers and Exporters of Rubber Products (SLAMERP), Managing Director of Dipped Products PLC, Pushpika Janadheera (pictured) at their 14th AGM
“To achieve this we need to focus on innovation, sustainability and strategic partnerships that ensure that Sri Lanka’s rubber industry is well-poised for sustained growth.”
Janadheera commended the industry’s remarkable achievements, including USD 1 billion in export revenue in 2024. He emphasized the growing global demand for value-added rubber products as well.
“This trend presents an incredible opportunity for Sri Lanka to modernize the sector, drive innovation and enhance its economic contribution further.” A cornerstone of SLAMERP’s vision is the continued implementation of the Rubber Master Plan, designed to modernize the sector and align it with international environmental standards. A significant milestone in 2024 was the signing of the Thailand Free Trade Agreement (SLTFTA), enhancing trade relations and improving market access.
Additionally, SLAMERP conducted training programs and workshops on cutting-edge topics such as technological advancements, EUDR compliance, and best practices to ensure Sri Lanka remains globally competitive. Janadheera also emphasized the importance of a unified approach to overcoming challenges, such as high energy costs, reliance on imported raw materials, and declining natural rubber production. “Our vision is clear: to establish Sri Lanka as a global force in the rubber industry by embracing innovation, sustainability, and collaboration,” he added.
This year also marks a milestone for SLAMERP as the association celebrates 40 years of championing Sri Lanka’s rubber industry. To commemorate this achievement, SLAMERP plans a celebratory event to honor the association’s legacy, its members’ accomplishments, and the rubber industry’s socio-economic impact
Building on 40 years of progress, SLAMERP continues to inspire the industry towards greater achievements. “The next chapter holds bold aspirations, paving the way for global recognition and affirming Sri Lanka’s lasting commitment to excellence in the rubber sector.” The AGM also introduced the proposed office bearers for 2025/26, with key appointments including Dr. Eng Sisira Ranatunga as Director General, Chinthaka Wegapitiya as Vice Chairman, Channa De Silva as Secretary and Palika Chandrajeewa as Treasurer.
