SLPA hosts German talks on Colombo development

Dr Felix Neumann, Ambassador of Germany to Sri Lanka and the Maldives, has visited the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) for discussions focused on development opportunities at the Port of Colombo and potential areas of maritime cooperation.
During the visit, Dr Parakrama Dissanayake, Chairman of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA), met with the German delegation alongside senior management from the authority.
Talks centred on strengthening infrastructure, attracting investment and expanding operational capabilities across Colombo’s maritime and logistics sectors.
The delegation included representatives from the Delegation of German Industry and Commerce in Sri Lanka (AHK Sri Lanka), alongside stakeholders from Germany’s maritime industry, underlining broader interest from German industry in the region’s port development landscape.
Discussions highlighted potential avenues for collaboration, particularly in areas linked to efficiency improvements, technology adoption and capacity expansion at the Port of Colombo.
The engagement also reflected growing attention towards long-term partnership models aimed at supporting port modernisation.
The visit forms part of wider efforts to explore international cooperation in South Asia’s port sector, with Colombo continuing to position itself as a key transhipment and logistics hub in the Indian Ocean region.
While no formal agreements were announced, both sides indicated interest in further engagement to assess joint initiatives that could support operational development and innovation across port infrastructure and services.
The SLPA has been focusing on enhancing competitiveness and throughput capacity at Colombo, with international collaboration increasingly viewed as a lever for technology transfer and infrastructure upgrading.
The German delegation’s engagement adds to ongoing discussions between Sri Lanka and international partners seeking to strengthen maritime connectivity and logistics performance in the region.
