Singapore and Japanese-flagged bulkers collide in China
The bulk carriers Yangze 22 and Vega Dream collided on the Changjiang River, Shanghai causing a bunker fuel spill.
The Singapore-flagged, 82,399 dwt Yangze 22 collided with the Japanese-flagged 174,713 dwt Vega Dream in the Changjiang River in China, at around 22:00hrs on 30 December.
The Maritime & Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), which administers the Singapore Registry of Ships, said the Yangze 22 had reported damaged to its hull and anchored in Hengsha East Anchorage for a damage assessment. Around nine tonnes of bunker fuel was reported to have been spilled from the vessel as a result of the collision.
Shanghai Maritime Safety Administration (MSA) was reported to be conducting clean-up operations from the bunker spill.
According to the Equasis database the Yangze 22 is managed by Fuyo Kaiun in Japan and owned by Nebula Shipping in Singapore. The Vega Dream is owned and managed by Mitsui OSK Lines.
Both vessels were reported to be in a stable condition and there were no injuries to the crew on board.
